These pieces are relatively minimal in expression within the large scope of my work. I wanted to paint loss (losing my mother, and losing the Citadel of Kirkuk , her home town). These two ghosts were expressed in an anemic palette with grays and white. The female figure is draped with a red poppy veil the pattern of which is from that area. The map like images of land were patterns derived from mother's last Turkish coffee cup. You can see the shape of a bear and a chicken. I imagined mother's spirit as the chicken , devoured by the bear. These details matter only to me but they help you understand why I paint what I paint.
